This is about to be a #FlashbackFriday post in a sense but in reality… isn’t. Does that make sense? Most probably not.

About two weeks back you may have seen that I attended the premiere of Leon Schuster’s new movie, Schuks! Pay Back the Money! courtesy of The Walt Disney Company Africa. Yes guys, Disney does a lot more than just, well, you know… their own movies and shows. Many people actually don’t know that Disney owns quite a lot within the industry and distribute many titles BUT that’s a story for another day where I educate you on how truly vast Disney’s reach is.

So, I went for the premiere and it was such fun! The premiere happened at Ster-Kinekor at Sandton City. It was so busy and there was food everywhere which of course made Yentl, Ashlee and myself very happy. Prior to the premiere we headed to Mugg & Bean for tea and sweet treats where we had time to catch up about the happenings in our life and work. Though, you may not believe that because it seemed like I Pericoped (follow me: @MishGov) the entire duration… but we did get time to talk. In case you haven’t noticed, I quite love live streaming from events now, but too bad I couldn’t locate any wi-fi on the night and my Cell C reception is pretty much non-existent in Sandton – no surprise really.

I did some quick interviews and got some footage of the night, but because of the craziness that I dealt with during that week I was close to not going… I felt I could have been better prepared for the evening. It was still fun as I hung out with my friends and tried to convince another, Jared to be more active on social media – you’ll see him on my vlog! The video is below and you can check it out. My sincere apologies for the quality of the Peiscope and audio towards the end. The app really should have an indication for the person streaming to be able to see how the live feed looks, sigh. Or go to my YouTube to watch the video and more.

This movie had the same formula as Leon’s other offerings, but I guess that’s why it does so well so why fix something that is not broken, right?  This time he needs to somehow pay back a large sum of money after the Rugby Currie Cup trophy goes missing and make a documentary painting South Africa in a positive light.

I will be honest, I preferred his movie from last year Schuks! Your Country Needs You! because I found the storyline to have had a little more detail… though with comedy movies like these, it’s not really about the story but rather the pranks which are strung into just under an hour and a half of footage, I guess. I did find myself laughing out loud in several scenes and as always, enjoy spotting the many celebs in his movies. I quite liked that the movie focused on very relevant topics us South Africans know – and most times hate – from loadshedding to basic service delivery. With that said, watching the movie is enjoyable because you can relate to the frustrations displayed on screen Don’t expect a masterpiece with this movie, but instead go in knowing you’ll have fun as Leon goes about his pranking antics.

Schuks! Pay Back the Money is currently out at cinemas from today for you to go and enjoy.
