We Are All Shaped By Fashion

If you know me well, then you will know that I’m very passionate about everything Journalism and media-anything related. In news journalism, there is the great Debora Patta. In entertainment reporting, Jeannie D, takes the crown. In magazine journalism – notably fashion – there really is only one woman who stands out for me and that is the editor of Elle South Africa, Jackie Burger.

Jackie is to Elle basically what Karl Lagerfeld is to Chanel – instrumental and iconic. I can’t think of Elle without thinking of Jackie, vice versa too.
I’ve seen Jackie at an event and noticed that she has an air and grace that is hard to put into words and best seen in person. I can’t quite grasp the fact that I have not met her yet nor made an attempt to. It’s pitiful really and something I should be ashamed of. In a perfect world, I’d sprinkle gold sparkles around and throw handfuls of confetti at Jackie if I ever did see her – my friend, Samantha, feels that would be very appropriate… Seriously, she does.

The first sentence I’d utter to her would probably be “Can I please have a moment to compose myself because your outfit looks magnificent” – she never gets a look wrong!

I have so many questions I’d love to ask her; what is your favourite fragrance; who inspired you as a kid; do you think fashion is shifting and receiving more respect by the average person on the street. Sigh. One day, right?

I love her classic and timeless style mixed with her own unique personality. I can only imagine that her closet is one wonderful space of beautiful clothing and exquisite pieces

I have such admiration and respect for Jackie. I doubt she even knows of me but I would love for her to know that I hold her in such high regard.

I’m not a fashion person myself, so I don’t know anything about these things, but sounds like she’s a big inspiration for you. I wouldn’t feel ashamed for not meeting her or what not. It can be hard to get the nerve to. But when the day comes, I wish you luck.

I am glad to hear that you’re still keeping up with your interest for journalism! I’m still looking forward to that blog post of you traveling to New York City ;). I hope you will have that opportunity in the future time to have a little interview with Jackie or any of the editors out there. For now, just hold on to that dream and work your way up! I think the the work she produces for Elle is just beautiful and magnificent.

    Take care :)

I can’t say I knew who she was before reading this post, but it’s nice that you look up to someone so much. Hopefully when you one day meet her, the encounter will be as lovely as you imagined it would be.

I have so much respect for fashion editors. They exude such confidence and I know that some people take it as being snooty and arrogant but don’t we all wish we can feel as good about ourselves? I can only dream!

I admittedly know very little about the people behind fashion (I wish I knew more!) but I still enjoyed this post so much. I love hearing about inspirational people and I love that you have a list of questions lined up – most people don’t have idols any more and that sucks. Seriously hope you get to ask her some day!

When I met Jackie I was soooo nervous. She oozes this classy glamour! It honestly felt like I was meeting Coco Chanel! But it was amazing! She is so down to earth, friendly and lovely! I really wish you can meet her and experience that something :)
